General Summary

This position provides nursing care services consistent with the responsibilities of an RN.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Observe and report symptoms and conditions of residents.
• Administer medications as prescribed by a physician.
• Provide treatments as ordered.
• Count narcotics and maintain accurate records.
• Maintain records reflecting resident condition, medication, treatments, and progress.
• Transcribe physician written and telephone orders.
• Place drug orders.
• Assist with the completion of nursing history, assessment, MDS, and care plans.
• Assist in the orientation and supervision of nursing staff.
• Perform direct resident care as necessary.
• Conform to recognized nursing practices and facility policies and procedures.
• Participate in ongoing in-service education.
• Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities when necessary.
• Prepare and coordinate CNA assignments.
• Contact physicians and book tests, labs, x-rays, and medical appointments.
• Assist physicians in making rounds and preparing charts for signatures.
• Check meal trays for accuracy.
• Directly supervise CNAs.
• Perform all treatments and assessments as required.
• Facilitate resident admissions and discharges.
• Notify physicians of any changes in resident status.
• Inform family members and healthcare providers of changes in treatment status.
• Maintain documentation and nursing notes.
• Update care plans as necessary.
• Report to nurse managers.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift up to fifty pounds.
• Able to push/pull forty pounds.
• Able to stand for up to four hours per day.
• Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level.
• Able to kneel.
• Able to walk and move intermittently.
• Able to cope with physical and mental job stress.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to recognize changes in resident conditions and take appropriate action.
• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking in English in a legible and understandable manner.
• Current CPR/AED Certification.

Education

Must be licensed in the State of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
