Network Engineer

The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 24 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications; develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission; builds, upgrades and maintains the University's network; operates the University's Data Center and help desk; develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans; and leads the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, covering student administration, financial management, and human resources. Job Description Reporting to the Director of Network Services, the Network Engineer will design, configure, and implement networks. The Engineer will support MANIWAN, wired & wireless LAN, Firewalls, VPN and IP telephony technologies, and serve as a networking resource for the department. Qualifications Extensive knowledge and experience working on an expansive production network Strong knowledge of designing, installing, upgrading, and configuring Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless network devices Knowledge of VOIP, VIDEO and related QOS strategies as they pertain to optimizing the network to support these technologies General knowledge of stateful firewalls, ideally CISCO ASA and Palo Alto firewalls Experience troubleshooting networking issues related to switching, routing, Firewalls, VPNs Experience supporting a Cisco wireless LAN, L2 trunking, port-channels, EIGRP, Metro-Ethernet Experience supporting VPC, VSS and VRFs on various Cisco hardware Experience with Network Management platforms such as Cisco ACS, SevOne & BMC products Knowledge of dark fiber networks, DWDM & Cisco ONS technology Demonstrated experience utilizing troubleshooting networking issues using tools such as Wireshark Knowledge of IP subnetting, TCP/IP, UDP and protocols/applications such as ICMP, FTP, SSH, NFS, iSCSI Be able to explain the various components of the OSI model Understanding of cabling and cabling limitations Ability to create documentation in MS Visio, MS Word, and MS Excel Equal Opportunity Statement All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines. #J-18808-Ljbffr City University of New York
