About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day and Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year of Med/Surg experience required. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred. Must-Have: Oncology experience preferred but not required. Current acute care experience is mandatory. Description: The role is focused on providing patient care in a medical surgical oncology unit. The position requires interaction with patients diagnosed with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, and other related conditions. Chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and IV antibiotics are part of the responsibilities. The nursing staff will be trained in managing oncologic emergencies, including tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome. A strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient safety will be emphasized. Telemetry interpretation and the use of rapid response teams are essential skills needed for this role. The nurse will engage in self-scheduling and collaborate closely with a preceptor for guidance and training. Staffing ratios are generally aimed at 1:4 but can vary. The schedule will be adjusted based on unit needs and requests. This position may require floating to other medical-surgical and oncology units as necessary. The unit supports an interdisciplinary approach, involving various health professionals and services. Candidates must meet specific requirements for patient care and demonstrate an understanding of essential protocols in this specialty.
