Faculty - Fire and Emergency Technology

Responsibilities Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses. Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and five (5) years full-time or full-time equivalent experience in the discipline. Associate's degree and six (6) years full-time or full-time equivalent experience in the discipline. The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above. Valid California Community college instructor credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990). Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities. Desired Qualifications Completion of California Office of State Fire Marshall CFSTES/FSTEP certification as an instructor in Wildland Certification and/or completion of National Wildfire Coordinating Group certification as an instructor in Wildland Certification. Experience as a sworn fire department employee with more than ten (10) years of experience. Community college teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnership with related program industry members and advisory committees. Demonstrate ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods. Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles. Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment as a member of an instructional team. Ability to utilize technology in and outside of the classroom, including online/hybrid teaching experience. Fire service/public safety training center instruction experience teaching FSTEP, CFSTES, NWCG and/or IFSAC courses. Salary Part‑time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $110.17–$146.27 per hour for lecture and $83.51–$110.84 per hour for lab, based on PT salary schedule fall/spring, depending on education and experience. Conditions of Employment This is a part‑time, temporary position for the fall 2026, beginning August 24, 2026. Assignments may include off‑site locations.
