UPMC Hamot CVICU Senior Patient Care TechnicianUPMC Hamot CVICU is looking for a full-time Senior Patient Care Technician! This position is straight nights. Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience.Patient CareProvide direct patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, transporting, turning, and repositioning patients.Perform and maintain competency in UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities, including: Vital signsBlood glucose monitoring and other point-of-care testingWeightsIntake and output (I&O) documentationSpecimen collectionFoley catheter careTelemetry monitor application and reapplicationHospital-acquired condition and patient safety indicator monitoringAssist with patient procedures, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and cardiopulmonary therapies.Observe, report, and provide feedback to the RN regarding patient condition and changes in patient status.Provide patient and family education under the direction of the RN.Apply, monitor, and remove restraints in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy.Transport patients, including cardiac-monitored patients, throughout the hospital.Advanced Clinical SkillsSuccessfully complete the Basic Arrhythmia course and perform designated advanced clinical skills based on department needs.Perform and maintain competency in one or more of the following advanced skills: Phlebotomy12-lead EKGsSimple dressing changesBladder scanningStraight catheterizationFoley catheter insertion, removal, and careIV catheter insertion, removal, and dressing changesFemoral hemostasisComplex wound careNG tube clamping and removalDocumentation and ComplianceDocument patient care accurately and timely in the medical record according to established procedures.Adhere to all UPMC policies, procedures, patient confidentiality standards, and hospital regulations.Follow all safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions and workplace safety practices.Perform assigned duties in a timely, efficient, and productive manner.Communication and CollaborationCommunicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, healthcare team members, and other departments.Establish and maintain professional, respectful, and productive working relationships.Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, workplace respect, impairment in the health professions, and prevention of horizontal violence.Support a positive work environment through accountability, professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues.Professional Development and LeadershipAccept feedback and direction constructively.Identify and communicate learning and development needs to leadership.Participate in self-assessment, competency validation, and performance improvement activities.Seek assistance with prioritization and workload management as needed.Participate in department projects, quality initiatives, committees, and process improvement efforts.Support and promote departmental changes and operational improvements.Unit Support and OperationsReport equipment malfunctions promptly to the appropriate department.Perform clerical and administrative duties as needed.Contribute to unit operations by responding to call lights and phones, passing meal trays, and assisting with patient transport.Demonstrate accountability for assignments and contribute to the efficient functioning of the department.May enter areas where medications are stored and may transport medications while accompanying patients in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED.Must meet one of the following requirements: Two (2) years of general healthcare experience and meet the requirements of the Patient Care Technician role; orOne (1) year of general healthcare experience and current enrollment in a Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physician Assistant (PA) program with completion of at least one clinical rotation; orOne (1) year of general healthcare experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician Senior class.Successful completion of eRecord training.Annual completion of a professional contribution, as determined after hire.Preferred QualificationsNursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation.Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification.Currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.Licensure, Certifications, and ClearancesBasic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components.Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance.May be required to successfully complete the appropriate UPMC Cardiac Rhythm Course based on organizational guidelines and unit-specific clinical needs.UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran.
