The school incorporates Dr. King's commitment to the highest standards in scholarship, civic participation, and the ideal of the beloved community.Position DescriptionThe Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, academic year School Nurse position. This individual will work closely with the leadership and crisis teams. In addition, the School Nurse will communicate and collaborate with the School Physician.ResponsibilitiesReview and help revise as needed School Health Room Policies and Procedures in alignment with the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).Complete ongoing continuous quality improvements programs and adjusts school nursing practice based on findingsReview and help revise as needed written policies and protocols for the clinical services and programs addressing health issuesCoordinate health services programs for students in compliance with statutes and regulationsUtilize SNAP Health Center to maintain full and accurate health records (i.e. student physicals, student immunizations, screenings [vision, hearing, posture, BMI], daily visitor log, and medication log.Advise staff on and address day-to-day medical issues/needs and emergencies of studentsManage order requests and storage of medical supplies and medication according to program, state, and federal guidelinesCarry out communicable disease and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautionsAssist with case management of students with chronic health conditionsComplete all school nurse required trainings (including but not limited to screenings, medicine delegations training, SNAP, etc.)Train staff in required epi-pen trainings and take delegation training to teach eligible staff to administer medications when you are absentMaintain prescription medications including epi-pen and inhalers at schoolResponsible for attending MDPH meetingsOversee the administration of all medication and treatments for all students according to guidelines set by the Massachusetts Department of Public HealthManage health related record keeping according to state and federal guidelines for all medicationsRequired CharacteristicsSelf-starterIndependentReliableStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal skillsProficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, or related softwareExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skillsStrong time management skillsPassionate about public education and health educationMLKCSE's mission and visionQualificationsDESE School Nurse CertifiedRegistered Nurse or BSN2+ years of nursing experience preferredPreferred QualificationsExperience preferred, particularly in an urban settingBilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to applyEqual Opportunity EmployerMLKCSE is committed to ensuring that all of its programs and facilities are accessible to all members of the public and free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
