About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage & Appeals Attorney to join a growing litigation practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned attorney with a strong background in New York bodily injury and property damage litigation who is looking to take on significant responsibility handling complex insurance coverage and appellate matters.

The successful candidate will manage matters from initial case assessment through resolution, with a particular focus on insurance coverage disputes, civil litigation, appeals, and complex bodily injury and property damage matters. The attorney will work closely with partners, clients, claims professionals, and litigation teams to develop effective strategies and provide high-quality legal representation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage insurance coverage and complex civil litigation matters from inception through resolution.
• Handle appeals and appellate matters, including developing appellate strategies and preparing appellate briefs.
• Analyze insurance policies and coverage issues and provide comprehensive coverage assessments.
• Draft coverage opinions, coverage position letters, pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive legal documents.
• Handle complex bodily injury and property damage litigation in New York state and federal courts.
• Conduct legal research involving insurance coverage, liability, damages, and appellate issues.
• Manage discovery, including written discovery, document review, depositions, and discovery-related motion practice.
• Prepare and argue dispositive motions and other substantive motions.
• Represent clients in court appearances, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution proceedings.
• Evaluate claims, liability exposure, coverage issues, and litigation risks.
• Work closely with clients, claims professionals, insurers, partners, and opposing counsel to develop case strategies.
• Manage appellate deadlines, procedural requirements, and filings.
• Provide strategic legal advice regarding coverage disputes, litigation exposure, and potential appeals.
• Maintain strong client relationships while delivering responsive and practical legal guidance.

Required Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active admission to practice law in New York.
• 10+ years of experience handling bodily injury and property damage litigation in New York.
• Significant experience handling insurance coverage matters and civil litigation.
• Strong appellate experience, including drafting appellate briefs and handling appeals.
• Demonstrated experience with coverage analysis, coverage disputes, discovery, motion practice, and litigation strategy.
• Experience with commercial general liability, premises liability, bodily injury, property damage, or related civil litigation is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of New York insurance law, civil procedure, and appellate practice.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent judgment and ability to independently manage complex matters.
• Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
• Admission in additional jurisdictions such as New Jersey, Connecticut, or Florida is a plus.
