Job Title: Welder / Fabricator – Heavy Industrial Equipment

Job Description

This role focuses on safely fabricating, welding, assembling, fitting, and operating machines involved in the production of heavy and large mechanical products. You will work from detailed specifications and production schedules, make independent decisions with minimal direct supervision, and ensure that all work meets quality, safety, and performance standards in a dynamic job-shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Safely fabricate, assemble, weld, fit, and install heavy industrial equipment in accordance with specifications, blueprints, and production schedules.

• Read, interpret, and accurately execute work from blueprints, weld symbols, cut lists, and written work instructions.

• Perform advanced welding and fabrication duties, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding in all required positions.

• Inspect materials, in-process work, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards, safety requirements, and technical specifications.

• Set up, operate, monitor, and adjust production machines and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and precise operation.

• Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment to move, position, and assemble large components.

• Use precision measuring tools and instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances during fabrication and machining.

• Collaborate with team members in both the machine shop and fabrication shop to coordinate work, resolve issues, and meet production deadlines.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment.

• Identify and communicate equipment issues or process improvements to support continuous improvement and reliable operation.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of experience in welding, fabrication, or closely related heavy industrial work (preferred).

• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding in multiple positions on heavy and large components.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, cut lists, and detailed work instructions accurately.

• Experience with CNC milling and CNC setup in a production or job-shop environment.

• Strong blueprint reading skills and familiarity with industrial fabrication and machining drawings.

• Competence in using precision measuring tools and instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.

• Ability to safely set up, operate, and adjust production machines and equipment.

• Capability to safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.

• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, safety, and adherence to specifications.

• Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision once instructions are provided.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in repair, upkeep, and installation of industrial machines and equipment.

• Ownership of a basic tool set or the ability to obtain necessary tools for the role (specialty tools are provided).

• Comfort working with heavy and large mechanical products in a high-activity industrial setting.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to different tasks, parts, and production requirements.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with a small, highly active shop team.

Work Environment

The role is based in a heavy industrial environment where large parts are machined and fabricated. You will work in a spacious machine shop equipped with a wide range of machines and supported by a separate fabrication shop. Although the shop floor may appear open due to its size and a relatively small current headcount, the workload is steady with a substantial backlog and plans to grow the machine shop team from about five to ten people. The setting is a dynamic job shop capable of handling a diverse mix of projects, requiring flexibility and a high level of activity. Personal protective equipment is required and includes steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and ear plugs, reflecting a strong emphasis on safety and proper industrial work attire.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $73840.00/yr.
