Senior Accountant

About the Role We're an architecture and residential construction firm looking for a Senior Accountant to run day-to-day accounting for both businesses and work closely with the Principals and CFO. You'll handle AP and AR, month-end close, reconciliations, and job-cost and WIP reporting across projects in Deltek Ajera, JobTread, and QuickBooks Online. You'll also work with project managers, superintendents, and designers to keep job costing and billing accurate. Part of the job is spotting manual work that could be done better and helping us fix it. You don't need automation experience. We'll provide the tools, training, and support to get you there. What Makes This Role Different Two businesses, one role: architectural design (Deltek Ajera) and residential construction (JobTread), with multiple revenue models and WIP methods. Automation encouraged, not required on day one: help identify and improve 3–5 processes in your first year. Continuous improvement: troubleshoot integrations, build dashboards, and document what you build. Responsibilities Accounting Operations Process and code vendor invoices and employee expenses; manage approval routing and ACH payment runs Prepare client invoices, draw packages, and track retainage/lien waivers across architecture and construction projects Maintain vendor/client compliance files (W-9s, COIs, certificates) Close & Reporting Own bank, credit card, loan reconciliations, AR/AP aging, prepaid and fixed-asset schedules Support WIP analysis: percent-complete updates, committed-cost tracking, variance reporting Build and maintain KPI dashboards (job gross margin, WIP aging, AR/AP current, labor utilization) Systems & Automation Administer integrations across Ajera, JobTread, and QuickBooks Online Help identify opportunities to automate manual processes (we'll teach you the tools—OCR, Apps Script, workflow automation) Document processes, test cases, and SOPs for improvements you implement Compliance & Business Partnership Prepare sales/use tax workpapers; support annual audits and CPA requests Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and designers to ensure accurate job costing and billing Company Benefits Paid Holidays Paid Vacation Health Insurance Vision/Dental Insurance Health Savings Account/FSA 401(k) retirement plan Requirements Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA or CPA candidate is preferred but not required. Experience: 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including AP/AR, month-end close, and account reconciliations. Required skills: working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, and comfort with job costing, WIP, or project-based accounting. Preferred: experience in construction, architecture, or professional services; WIP and percent-complete reporting; Deltek Ajera, JobTread, or similar systems; any exposure to automation, scripting, or AI tools. Analytical problem-solving: digs into variances, troubleshoots integration issues, and finds root causes. Process improvement mindset: questions manual steps and is curious about better tools and workflows.
