Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital gives students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all share a supportive environment that is committed to excellent medicine and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Most externship experiences at Forest Glen Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Student Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe and/or assist in surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Eligibility and Stipend Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Forest Glen Animal Hospital is $1,500.
