Job Title Remedial Action Hydrogeologist (Natural Resource Specialist 4 – Hydrogeologist / Natural Resource Specialist 4 – Underfill) Agency Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Oregon Location Portland, Oregon (hybrid work possible) Salary $6,574 - $10,122 per month (non-PERS qualifying) Description As a Remedial Action Hydrogeologist, you will manage the site investigation, feasibility study, design, construction, and operation phases of cleanup at hazardous substance sites, providing hydrogeological technical expertise and assistance for groundwater and subsurface investigations and remediation. Responsibilities Serve as a project manager for site investigation, feasibility study, design, construction, and operation phases of remediation at hazardous substance sites. Provide hydrogeological technical expertise and assistance for groundwater and subsurface investigations and cleanup at sites with hazardous substances. Minimum Qualifications Seven (7) years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field. At least one (1) year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities. Current registration as an Oregon Professional Geologist. For underfill appointments, the applicant must obtain Oregon Professional Geologist registration within three (3) years of employment. Bachelor's degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field may substitute for three (3) years of the required experience. Master's degree may substitute for four (4) years of the required experience. Doctorate may substitute for five (5) years of the required experience. Desired Attributes Understanding of environmental justice and historical impacts on marginalized and underrepresented communities. Expert-level knowledge in hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport in the subsurface, site characterization, groundwater monitoring, soil and groundwater contamination assessment, and corrective action for contamination. Excellent project management, analytical, and organizational skills; prior consulting or regulatory experience in a project manager role. Experience directing all phases of environmental investigations and cleanups of sites contaminated with hazardous substances, including petroleum hydrocarbons. Ability to serve as a project team leader for remedial action projects. High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access), Google Earth, Acrobat, data management and statistics, basic GIS, and groundwater modeling. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling reports and presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
