Transportation Attendant
Open and Promotional. The established Eligibility List will remain in effect for one year. The District has the right to limit the number of eligibles which can be reasonably used during the existence of the eligibility list. Application Process: Applicants who successfully meet the employment standards outlined in the Required Qualifications in the job description and the supplemental questionnaire questions in the application will be invited to participate in the testing process. Tentative Testing Schedule for this Recruitment: Written Examination: Qualified applicants will be invited to test on a walk-in basis on the first and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.

Education: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school.
Experience: One-year experience working with special needs children. Licenses and other Requirements
- CPR/First Aid Certificate. (Must be completed upon employment with the District.)
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background.
- Clearance TB Clearance.
Examples of Duties
Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation, ride a school bus to provide safe and secure transportation for students with physical, medical, educational, and emotional disabilities; assist school bus drivers in the loading, unloading, and securing of disabled students.
- Assess potential emergency situations on the bus and within loading and unloading zones; undertake appropriate action to protect the well-being of passengers.
- Assist drivers with securing students and equipment with restraints, tie downs including wheelchairs and seat belts; ensure the safety and well-being of students.
- Assist special needs students during transport including safe loading and unloading from buses during both emergency situations and normal transport.
- Attend in-service meetings and trainings; receive and convey information to perform job functions.
- Instruct students on bus rules, regulations, and maintaining safety.
- Monitor students to prevent distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students and passengers.
- Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent and guardian; ensure students' safety.
- Prepare documentation including incident reports, passenger misconduct; provide written support and convey information.
- Report observations and incidents including discipline, inappropriate social behavior; communicate information to appropriate personnel.
Other Duties: Perform related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one-year experience working with special needs children. Licenses and other Requirements

Knowledge of:
- Operation of mechanical lift, wheelchairs, seat belts, restraining harnesses, and wheelchair clamping devices.
- Safe practices concerning school bus transportation.
- Problems and concerns of students with special needs.
- Basic record-keeping techniques.
- Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Health and safety regulations.
Ability to:
- Ride a school bus for children with special needs and assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation assuring safety of students.
- Maintain proper records and documentation.
- Assist student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required.
- Understand and relate to children with special needs.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Lift students according to established guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Observe health and safety regulations.

• Candidates must pass all parts of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list. The final score will determine the candidate's rank on the eligibility list.
• A candidate in the top three ranks (including tie scores) on the eligibility list may be considered for hire; when there are multiple vacancies in the same job classification, additional ranks will be considered.
• Open and Promotional examinations are open to applicants inside and outside the Lompoc Unified School District. To qualify for the promotional examination, employees must have permanent status in the Lompoc Unified School District as a classified employee.
• Promotional Only examinations are open to current Lompoc Unified School District classified employees only. For employees to qualify for the promotional examination, they must have permanent status in the District as a classified employee.
• Dual Certification examinations are open to all applicants, including current Lompoc Unified School District employees and those from the general public. Dual Certification results are integrated into one eligibility list based on rank.
• Eligibility lists are generally valid for up to one (1) year. Lists may be exhausted prior to the original expiration date, or they may be extended with the approval of the Personnel Commission.

Employment Requirements
Employment Verification: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the District must verify that all new employees, at the time of hire, have proof of their right to work in the United States.
Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB 1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information.
Medical and Physical Requirements: Verification of freedom from tuberculosis will be required. A medical examination may be required of eligible candidates.
