Supervisory Wildlife Biologist (State Director)

Summary If selected, you will be responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and administering complex operational and technical assistance programs designed to efficiently, effectively, and safely reduce wildlife damage that adversely impacts agricultural interests, human health and safety, property, and natural resources. This position is multi-jurisdictional and primarily spans several districts within a State/Territory or a combination of states, which includes supervising a large staff. Major Duties The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to: Conducts continuing reviews and evaluations of projects and activities to determine overall program effectiveness and compliance with required operating procedures. Prepares long-range work plans, work schedules and priorities, formulates budget estimates, and administers fund expenditures for highly diverse, complex, multi-funded programs. Continuous identification and integration of internal and external program issues affecting Wildlife Services. Directs and oversees a large workforce of Federal and, in some cases, cooperative employees. Determines required staffing levels and organizational structure in relation to budgets and project needs. Leads program to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), parallel State environmental laws, and other applicable Federal and State laws and regulations. Establishes and maintains numerous and diverse cooperative relationships. Develops and conducts educational and outreach programs to influence positive public attitudes towards WS. Develops standard operating procedures, protocols, and guidance for the program along with Memorandums of Understanding/Agreement and other official policy documents.
