Health Facility Surveyor

You will serve as a Health Facility Surveyor with the Health Care Surveillance Branch, Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, Wyoming Department of Health, conducting surveys and investigating complaints statewide according to Wyoming State Statutes in agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Talking with patients and residents and influencing positive changes for them through visits to various types of healthcare facilities. This position is eligible for a $2,000 hiring bonus. Essential Functions Perform standard and abbreviated surveys such as initial licensure and certification surveys, recertification surveys, complaint investigations, and follow‑up surveys. Ensure the survey process is implemented correctly and efficiently. Interpret regulations and guidance from the State Operations Manual and other federal/state guidelines; perform complaint intakes and assess regulatory problems. Determine regulatory category for complaint allegations. Report findings to the Team Coordinator or Supervisor and evaluate plans of correction. Provide oral or written technical assistance to a variety of healthcare providers. Participate in in‑service education and other educational opportunities related to the survey process. Travel extensively statewide to and from survey sites. Preferences / Agency Requirements Preference may be given to registered nurses, registered dietitians, social workers, medical technologists, and occupational, physical or respiratory therapists. Preference may be given to candidates with experience in nursing homes, hospitals, laboratories, home health agencies, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, or dialysis facilities. The successful applicant must be licensed by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. The applicant must complete the CMS Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within six months of employment. Knowledge Knowledge of healthcare standards, medical conditions (acute and chronic), medical procedures, mental health needs, and quality of life. Knowledge of federal and state requirements for certifying and licensing healthcare facilities. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Healthcare). Experience: 0–3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist. OR 4–6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist. Certificates, licenses, or registrations: None required. Physical Working Conditions Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites. The position will be located in Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park, or Washakie County and will require working from a home office. Notes FLSA: Non‑Exempt.
