Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Oncology/Infusion

Job Description

As a Pharmacy Technician Specialist in Oncology/Infusion, you'll partner with our Department Director or Manager to keep our pharmacy operations running smoothly and efficiently. About 65% of your time will be spent mastering and optimizing our automation systems. You'll collaborate with pharmacy, nursing, and other multidisciplinary teams across each business unit to deliver exceptional patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Optimize automation systems and related activities to streamline pharmacy operations and boost efficiency
• Coordinate operations across key department areas including information services, inventory control, and pharmaceutical waste management
• Prepare, handle, and verify hazardous pharmaceutical compounds and chemotherapy medications in compliance with USP standards
• Perform quality assurance checks and accuracy verification on all dispensed medications to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance
• Monitor controlled substances diversion with precision and maintain comprehensive documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations
• Conduct inventory reconciliation specific to oncology and infusion medications, identifying discrepancies and implementing corrective actions
• Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on pharmacy automation equipment to minimize downtime
• Support patient safety initiatives and participate in continuous quality improvement projects within the pharmacy department
• Champion regulatory readiness initiatives and compliance efforts

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Requires high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Requires at least two (2) years of experience as an inpatient pharmacy technician (for inpatient setting) OR two (2) years of experience as a pharmacy technician for all others. Two (2) years of experience with automated pharmacy dispensing systems preferred.
• PC skills as needed to perform job functions as assigned.
• Strong verbal/written skills; availability for on-call system support; highly analytical ability to solve complex technical problems.
• Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
• Flexibility to deal with ever-changing health care environment. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Valid State of MI pharmacy technician licensure required.
