Substitute Nutritional ServicesPosition: Substitute Nutritional ServicesReports to: Director of Nutritional ServicesNo weekends, holidays, or evenings. Most positions are scheduled between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.Note: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance:Qualifications:High school diploma or general education degree (GED)One to two years related experienceServe Safe food handlers certification or the ability to obtainSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriateRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsThorough understanding of friendly customer serviceAbility to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labelsAbility to operate a point of sale system and other related computer equipmentBasic math/bookkeeping skillsSuch alternatives to the above knowledge, skills, abilities as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriateEssential Functions:Ensure safety of studentsReceive payment for cafeteria lunches and milkRecord number of lunches served to students and staffPrepare point of sale system before lunchroom opensCount receipts following lunch period and record totalsRestock milk when neededFill condiments when neededBalance out daily worksheets and documentsEnsure that appropriate paperwork is available at the point of sale systemDetermine and collect the correct amount to charge for each individual meal or itemMake contacts with the public with tact and diplomacyMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., free and reduced lunch studentsInteract in a positive manner with staff, students, and parentsSelect items on computer for Daily menuAssist cook if time allowsAttend meetings and complete online in-services as requiredSee that napkins, silverware, straws, and condiments are in ample supply during serving of studentsHelp restock a la carte items and general cleanupAssist in cleaning cooking and serving areasPromote good public relationsServe as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beingsSuch alternatives to the above essential functions as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriateOther Duties and Responsibilities:Complete food services time sheetsRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerAbility to work as a team and assist the department as neededAbility to organize and maintain lunch count when point of sale system is not workingPerform other duties as assigned by the Nutritional Service SupervisorServe as a role model for the District.Equipment Operated:Point of sale computer systemCalculatorCopy machinePencil and paperOther equipment as needed to perform job functionsAdditional Working Conditions:Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissueOccasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to school on all scheduled school days, except calamity daysOccasional interaction with unruly adults and childrenOccasional requirement to travel, i.e., to pick up food or materialsOccasional exposure to fumes or airborne particlesFrequent exposure to loud noisesOccasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employeeFrequent requirement to stand, walk, talk, hear, see (color vision required), read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and armsFrequent requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull up to a maximum of 50 poundsFrequent excessive standing during assigned workdayFrequent repetitive hand motions, e.g., operating point of sale systemOccasional requirement to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouchEmployee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.This job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
