Highway Maintenance Lead Specialist (TM II) - Golden

Position Summary This vacancy is for a Lead Highway Maintenance Specialist (TM II) located in Golden, CO. This position is only open to Colorado state residents. Compensation: Total annual compensation typically ranges from $70,872 to $76,752 , including $58,872 to $64,752 base pay and a $12,000 housing stipend. Job Responsibilities Lead a patrol and oversee general maintenance activities for a designated area. Perform skilled heavy construction equipment operation and heavy manual labor under hazardous and adverse conditions. Maintain facilities in near‑original conditions and ensure all equipment is safe and operable. Plan and schedule daily activities; develop work plans; review progress; identify training needs; mentor employees; conduct safety talks. Ensure patrol attends required training and conduct site inspections. Lead maintenance of road surfaces, roadside facilities, traffic services, roadside appearance, bridges/structures, snow/ice control, and equipment. Perform required paperwork and reports; use SAP for work orders and timesheets. Trim and remove trees, remove graffiti, and use a variety of light to heavy equipment. Ensure proper use of equipment and PPE; assist other patrols as needed. Complete other duties as assigned. Work Environment Exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, gasses, and dusts. Requires use of PPE and potentially respirators. Work with chemicals and cleaning products; use ladders and scissor lifts (10–20 ft). Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, tractor, forklift, skid steer, and aerial devices. Drive CDOT vehicles; frequent response to emergencies outside regular hours. Work at high voltage locations (over 600 V) and in extreme temperatures, variable weather, and up to 12,000 ft elevation. Use computers; average work week is 40 hours with periodic overtime. Must read, understand, and follow instructions. Minimum Qualifications At least three (3) years of experience in road/highway maintenance. Experience includes pothole repair, asphalt or concrete paving, heavy equipment operation, bridge and roadside maintenance, traffic control, and snow removal. Preferred Qualifications Success in the responsibilities listed above. State service experience related to mandate duties. Experience scheduling and planning daily work activities for subordinates. Comprehensive knowledge of Emergency Response Guidelines, MUTCD, and relevant federal and state regulations. Current Colorado CDL Class A or B with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements. Experience operating front end loaders, tandem trucks, backhoes, and heavy equipment. Strong leadership, communication, safety orientation, and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency with SAP, MS Office, and computer use.
