School Social Worker

Ulster BOCES Instructional Services is seeking a School Social Worker to join our team in providing behavioral consultation, assessment, coaching, and professional support to educators and school teams across our component districts. This is a staff-focused position with limited direct student contact. The primary responsibility is to build the capacity of teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and school-based teams to effectively understand and respond to students with behavioral and social-emotional needs. The successful candidate will serve as a behavioral support resource to component district staff—helping school personnel understand the function of student behavior, develop effective interventions, collect and analyze meaningful data (FBA's/BIP's), and implement strategies that support student success. This position is not a counseling or direct-service social work position. While occasional student observation is an important component of the work, the majority of the role involves supporting the adults who work with students. The School Social Worker will function as a behavioral consultant, coach, and capacity-builder, helping educators support their students. This is a full-time, 10-month position. Work Schedule 10 Month Schedule Monday through Friday Specific Duties Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress. Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helpingstudents, to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation inresolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriateresources available. Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and givinginformation on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in themodification of the student's behavior. Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, such outsideagencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau, Juvenile Court,and the like, as appropriate. Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student'sbackground. Serves as liaison between home andschool when considerable follow-up isnecessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students. Assists students directly toward adjustment to school. Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outsideagencies when appropriate.
