Job Opportunity – Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) – Iowa

Schedule: Full-time, 20-22 shifts per month. Monday through Friday clinic days with one weekend per month. Day call coverage 1:3 (8am-5pm), night call coverage 1:4 (5pm-8am), and one weekend per month.

Highlights:

• Round on adults and adolescents (ages 8-17) in behavioral health inpatient units totaling 36 beds (28 adult, 8 adolescent)
• Work alongside collaborative team including one other APP, psychiatrists, recreational therapists, social workers, and discharge planners
• Average daily census of 10-15 patients with typical admission length of 3-5 days
• EMR currently Cerner, transitioning to EPIC in September 2026
• Call responsibilities include emergency department admissions and consults (average 2 per day)
• Teaching opportunities with nursing students, OT students, and Family Medicine residents on unit

Requirements:

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (required)
• Active Iowa state license (required)
• No new graduates; experienced practitioners only
• Experience in psychiatry and behavioral health preferred

Responsibilities:

• Performing admission histories and psychiatric assessments
• Conducting physical examinations and daily rounds
• Diagnosing and treating various psychiatric disorders including psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and childhood disorders
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies
• Prescribing medications and managing ongoing care in consultation with supervising psychiatrists
• Coordination of care and discharge planning
• Addiction education and management
