Job Description:

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen by safely and efficiently operating dishwashing equipment, cleaning kitchen areas, and ensuring all dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment are properly sanitized and available for meal service. The Dishwasher plays a key role in supporting the dietary team and ensuring residents receive meals in a safe, sanitary, and pleasant dining environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Washes and sanitizes dishes, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment according to established standards.
• Operates and maintains dishwashing machines and other cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ensures the kitchen and dishwashing areas are kept clean, orderly, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
• Assists with receiving, storing, and organizing food and supplies as needed.
• Removes trash and recyclables from kitchen and dining areas, maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.
• Works collaboratively with dietary staff to ensure meal service runs smoothly and dishes are ready for use.
• Follows infection control, sanitation, and safety policies at all times.
• Reports equipment malfunctions, supply needs, or safety hazards promptly to supervisor.
• Assists with other kitchen duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Cook.

Job Knowledge & Skills:

• Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures, including safe handling of chemicals.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of food safety and infection control standards preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe environment.
• Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications & Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Previous experience working in food service, hospitality, or healthcare setting preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required food handler or sanitation certifications as mandated by state regulations.
• Must demonstrate a moderate level of computer literacy in order to use and access our systems and tools within our facilities to complete online tasks and documentation.
• Must be able to effectively communicate and interact professionally with staff and residents.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously throughout the shift.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of kitchen equipment and supplies.
• Ability to tolerate hot, humid, and noisy work environments.
• Stamina to perform repetitive tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
