ED Tech - Co-Op

Job Description Nemours is excited to offer part‑time (12 p‑8 p, 20 hours/week) opportunities for students in our Emergency Room at Nemours Children's Hospital, Wilmington, DE. The position consists of two 8‑hour shifts and one 4‑hour shift, no weekend, no holiday. This role assists with general activities of the Emergency Department and supports the health care team with patient‑care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Position Responsibilities Additional miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor. Continuously assess patients with the pediatric assessment triangle, note changes and identify life‑threatening conditions. Assist Rapid Assessment nurse with vital signs, wound care, POCT, and other interventions. Extract injured patients from vehicles, maintaining C‑spine, stabilizing fractures, and removing from car. Room patients according to acuity and area availability after discussion with Flow Supervisor. Report and document all changes and complications in flow to Flow Supervisor. Perform initial assessments to identify monitoring needs (cardiac monitors, pulse oximetry). Document intake and output. Communicate with RN about abnormal vitals or changes in patient status. Maintain accurate vitals at intervals based on acuity/severity (Q15, Q30, Q45, Q1 hr, Q2 hr, Q4 hr). Assist healthcare team with procedures such as lumbar puncture, IV catheter insertion, laceration repair, suctioning, urinary catheterization, POCT, and other necessary items. Perform ECGs, nasal washes, flu testing, visual acuity, phlebotomy, including stat lab testing (bilirubin, newborn screen for outpatients during weekend hours). Perform POCT for assigned patients: urinalysis, rapid strep test, gastro/hemoccult, HCG test, glucose test. Transport patients to inpatient units, radiology, MRI, OR, ECG, ultrasound, PICU, NICU, and clinics, monitoring oxygen saturation and cardiac activity during transports. Respond to “Stat Responses” in the Emergency Department. Initiate and continue CPR for patients in cardiac arrest. Respond to all “Code Triages” with stat stretcher, EMS bag, AED; prepare for on‑scene resuscitation. Perform trauma code functions: remove clothes, apply cardiac leads, pulse ox, hold C‑spine, get vital signs, assist with patient transport, CPR, restock room, and trauma supplies. Apply cast shoe, non‑articulating boot, knee immobilizer, slings, c‑collars, Miami J collar, trauma collar, wrist splints. Fit crutches and provide teaching. Assist Orthopedic Residents with fracture reductions during sedation, splinting, and casting. Stock supplies and maintain equipment in the Emergency Department. Stock supplies and linens for EMS. Maintain assigned zone’s par stock, linens, and IV trays. Complete task cards. Sign off stat response stretcher to ensure proper function. Sit 1:1 with patients who have behavioral health concerns, performing visual assessment every 5 minutes. Position Requirements High school diploma or active enrollment in a high school Co‑Op program through Nemours. American Heart Association BLS certification. EMT certification.
