The Support Services Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a Deputy Director position. This individual will partner with the Division Director to oversee operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead key programs and initiatives. The Deputy Director supervises managers and professional staff, promotes high performance, and represents the division with internal and external stakeholders. Work location: The selected candidate's work location may be Headquartered in Austin or any of the following 25 TxDOT District offices located in Abilene, Amarillo, Atlanta, Austin, Beaumont, Brownwood, Bryan, Corpus Christi, Childress, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, Lufkin, Odessa, Paris, Pharr, San Angelo, San Antonio, Tyler, Waco, Wichita Falls, and Yoakum.
Minimum Salary: $165,000.00
Maximum Salary: $190,000.00

Position Description: Provides strategic and operational leadership for the Support Services Division by overseeing facilities planning, management and budget, security operations, and property management, while helping direct support services and staff across multiple locations to ensure alignment with organizational priorities. Supports the development and implementation of departmental policies, programs, and initiatives in accordance with federal and state regulations and Transportation Commission directives. Leads, assigns, and supervises managers and professional staff, promotes high performance and continuous improvement, serves on behalf of the Division Director as assigned. Work requires frequent engagement with departmental leadership, government officials, private entities, internal stakeholders, and the public. Employees at this level exercise independent judgment and are directly accountable for assigned programs, initiatives, and work products.
Essential Duties: Advises the Division Director and leadership on strategic, operational, technical, and administrative matters affecting support service programs, resources, and policy direction. Provides oversight for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of division-wide systems, processes, and performance measures used to manage and evaluate support services. Directs and coordinates preparation of budget submissions, Legislative Appropriation Requests (LAR), and resource planning activities for assigned support functions to align funding with strategic priorities. Provides strategic oversight of facilities management operations, including maintenance programs, contracts, capital improvement activities, and service delivery to support statewide operational needs. Oversees project development, construction management and inspections, contract administration, facilities budgeting, and statewide security programs to ensure alignment, accountability, and effective service delivery. Ensures property management activities comply with federal and state law, agency policy, and Commission directives, and addresses risks or corrective actions as needed. Reviews operational data, reports, and performance metrics to evaluate division performance, inform executive decision-making, and drive continuous improvement. Conducts site visits and operational reviews of district and division offices to assess program effectiveness, identify risks, and guide improvements in statewide service delivery. Evaluates in-house and outsourced service delivery models and makes recommendations to improve cost-effectiveness, operational efficiency, and organizational flexibility. Represents the division in meetings, workgroups, and cross-functional initiatives as assigned. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Any Discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Experience: 4 years of experience in facilities management, property management, or related experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Must have three (3) years managerial/supervisory experience.
