Registered Nurse (RN General, Dialysis, Mental Health)

Registered Nurse Shift 2nd shift and every 3rd weekend (overtime available) Requirements Must use clear bags and pass through a metal detector—no silverware allowed. Even coffee mugs and tumblers must be clear. Job Duties (These duties are illustrative and incumbents may perform some or all of these or other related tasks as assigned.) Provides professional nursing care to students hospitalized in a student health services unit, or to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers housed in a state-owned or operated facility or institution, as well as staff. Responsibilities include: Observing, assessing, and recording symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients in the infirmary or clinic out-patients. Making nursing rounds, taking and recording vital signs. Preparing and administering prescribed medications, ordered treatment plans, and immunizations. Monitoring restrained patients (e.g., lock-ups, detention, isolation) every 15 minutes and providing immediate medical attention to emergencies, such as administering first aid, arranging transportation to emergency rooms, contacting physicians when necessary, and counseling patients on medical referrals. If assigned, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work of lower-level staff (e.g., RNs, LPNs), including approving or disapproving leave requests and completing performance evaluations (not mandatory). Participating in staff development and education, reviewing care plans written by staff, and training and orienting new employees. OR In a corrections medical center, responsible for the health care of 20-60 bedridden inmates, including: Making rounds, evaluating care needed and provided, developing care plans, and teaching health care principles. Administering medications including narcotics and providing all direct nursing care as needed. Performing specialized procedures such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusion, intubation, CPR, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, and phlebotomy. Organizing and overseeing the 'code blue' team. Directing health care staff such as hospital aides and licensed practical nurses assigned to the area. Acting as lead worker in charge of one assigned shift in the absence of a higher-level nurse. Assisting physicians in conducting diagnostic health evaluations. Clerical and Administrative Duties Charting and recording all medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information. Completing required reports such as incident and accident reports. Documenting Medicaid information. Ordering supplies and equipment and maintaining an accurate inventory of all controlled drugs, medications, and equipment. Arranging outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations by physicians. Coordinating new and refilled prescriptions ordered by physicians through local pharmacies. Performing administrative tasks and serving as a liaison within the organization. Conducting or attending meetings and occasionally serving as an instructor. Participating as a member or leader of problem-solving teams or groups. Major Work Characteristics Knowledge of professional registered nursing procedures. Familiarity with state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing. Skills in public relations, employee training, and development. Inventory control expertise. Ability to operate medical equipment such as stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure cuff, and EKG machine. Capability to handle mostly concrete variables with some abstract elements. Proficiency in writing meaningful, concise, and accurate reports. Ability to gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things. Physical fitness to perform job duties.
