SP - Research Technician

Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine or basic laboratory duties in support of laboratory research. Generally involves tasks/techniques which requires on the job training and draws largely upon practical knowledge and experience. Supervision Works under close supervision; works under general supervision with acquired experience. Example of Duties Receives training in designated research protocols which involves basic technical laboratory techniques and procedures and the operation of laboratory equipment such as but not limited to microscope, plate reader etc.; assists research and laboratory personnel with experiments and procedures Records and maintains accurate lab records and optimizes lab protocol and SOPs Serves as a resource to other learning specific techniques and/or process; organizes supplies, materials or equipment Performs other related duties as assigned or required Knowledge, Skill and Ability Some knowledge of laboratory equipment, basic wet lab procedures Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment/procedures Some interpersonal skills Oral and written communication skills Ability to follow instructions [verbal or written]; and apply policies and procedures Experience & Training High School diploma or equivalent One (1) year of experience in a laboratory/medical setting Minimum Qualifications Aseptic cell culture of primary cells and cell lines Molecular biology techniques including PCR, plasmid construction, DNA or protein gel electrophoresis, western blot Preferred Qualifications Immunology techniques such as ELISA, qPCR, flow cytometry Microbiology skills such as streaking/plating bacteria, measuring bacteria growth etc Protein expression and purification BS or higher with formal training in molecular biology, immunology or similar area Working Conditions May occasionally be required to lift standard laboratory equipment and supplies. Schedule 1 FTE (40 hours per week). Monday‑Friday 9am‑5:30pm. Position Duration 18 months. Hourly Rate $20/hr.
