Outreach Program Facilitator

We are recruiting a qualified Outreach Program Facilitator to independently present the museum’s off‑site school programs for elementary‑aged students throughout the Denver Metro Area. Under the direction of the Student & Family Programs Coordinator, facilitators lead highly interactive 90‑minute classroom programs using established curriculum that combines history, geography, and economics with hands‑on learning. Position Details After completing training, facilitators work independently. They receive their teaching schedule approximately one month in advance, travel directly to assigned schools, and represent the museum while leading outreach programs. Facilitators generally work 2–4 days a week, 15–25 hours per week during school hours (approximately 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.). Programs are scheduled Tuesday through Friday. Schedules vary daily based on school bookings. This position follows the school calendar, with most holidays and school breaks off. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the Denver Metro Area are required. Mileage is reimbursed according to museum policy. Position duration is October through May for the 2026–2027 school year. Phone interviews will take place September 1–4. In‑person interviews will take place September 9–11. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2026. Responsibilities Independently lead interactive 90‑minute outreach programs (Building Colorado Communities, Building Colorado Cities, Ute Knowledge: STEM Kit) in elementary school classrooms to groups of up to 30 students. Instruct 2–4 classrooms per day at individual schools. Daily shifts vary, typically 4 to 7 hours. Facilitate classroom discussions, educational games, and hands‑on activities while maintaining a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment. Adapt presentation style and classroom management strategies to meet the needs of each classroom while maintaining the quality of established lesson plans. Utilize positive classroom management strategies to maintain high expectations and student engagement. Maintain outreach program materials and teaching supplies, keeping them organized and inventoried regularly. Utilize classroom technologies such as projection systems, teacher computers, Prezi presentation software, Google Suite, and Google Calendar for scheduling. Participate in required training, coaching sessions, staff meetings, and complete all required program evaluations in a timely manner. Use personal vehicle to drive to and from each assigned program destination daily. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required. College coursework or experience in classroom education, history, museum studies, or a related field preferred. Experience leading and managing elementary‑school‑age students in a classroom or large group preferred. Love of history and ability to share GHM program information in a professional and engaging manner. Basic knowledge of Colorado history preferred. Ability to adapt to diverse student groups. Familiarity with computers, laptops, iPads, Smartboards, and Prezi for teaching aids a plus. Excellent organizational, instructional, and communication skills. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and proof of insurance. Language Skills Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and coworkers. Excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal communication skills. Spanish speaking is a plus. Mathematical Skills Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Make independent decisions with minimal supervision. Other Skills and Abilities Utilize computer or laptop and Smart Board to facilitate programming. Materials & Equipment Used iPad, computer, laptop, Smartboard, portable projector, and projection screen. Personal vehicle for transportation to and from assigned program destinations. Physical Demands While performing the duties of the position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
