Property Accountant

A growing commercial real estate company in Raleigh, NC is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Property Accountant to join its accounting team. This position will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial properties, including office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use assets. The Property Accountant will work closely with Property Managers, Asset Managers, and third-party vendors to ensure accurate financial reporting, tenant billing, and property-level accounting. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial real estate accounting, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with Yardi Voyager. Responsibilities Manage the monthly accounting and financial reporting process for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and variance analyses. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations. Record and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and reclassification entries. Review accounts payable transactions and ensure proper coding and approval. Prepare and maintain tenant billing, CAM reconciliations, tax recoveries, insurance recoveries, and other lease-related charges. Monitor accounts receivable and coordinate collection efforts with Property Management. Review and analyze operating expenses, ensuring compliance with lease agreements and ownership requirements. Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and budget variance reporting. Support year-end audit and tax preparation activities by providing schedules and supporting documentation. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP standards. Utilize Yardi Voyager to maintain accurate property financial information and tenant records. Partner with property operations teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate or property management. Experience using Yardi Voyager. Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Commercial real estate accounting experience involving office, industrial, retail, or mixed-use properties. Experience with CAM reconciliations and tenant lease accounting. Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
