IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with strong experience in traffic operations and transportation planning, including traffic impact studies, signal systems, roadway design, and multimodal safety improvements. They are skilled in analyzing transportation data, coordinating with regional agencies, and developing practical solutions to improve traffic flow, safety, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who communicates effectively with staff, developers, and the public while managing complex transportation projects from planning through implementation.ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and experience but will not exceed the midpoint of the range. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement. Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36‑hour work week) Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.THE ROLE
Under limited direction, manages, and supervises team members for civil engineering design and/or construction projects and programs; performs professional and technical engineering duties; performs senior‑level engineering planning, design, and/or construction oversight for various building construction, remodeling, and major repairs, as well as for flood control, water and wastewater utilities, and other public facilities.QUALIFICATIONS – EXTERNAL
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field. Four (4) years of professional engineering experience in the applicable area of responsibility (Engineering Services, Development and Flood Control, Technical Services, Water/Wastewater or Transportation Services), preferably in a public agency. Licenses and Certifications Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver’s license, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada. If registered in another state must obtain Nevada registration within one (1) year of hire/reclassification. Registered Professional Architect in state of Nevada (if applicable). If registered in another state must obtain Nevada registration within one (1) year of hire/reclassification. (Public Works, Engineering Services candidates only).SELECTION PROCESS
Complete Online Application – Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments. Screening of the Application/Resume – The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include dates to be determined. Personnel File Review – Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75%. All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a file review. The review includes current employment status check, discipline, and performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified. Oral Board Interview – Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%. Pre‑Employment Screening – For non‑police positions only: Selected candidates are subject to a pre‑employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check, federal criminal history check via fingerprinting, and drug screening. Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete. Selection/Offers – The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
