General Liability Attorney - Long Island

Founded 40+ years ago, this is a national litigation law firm, with over 200 attorneys, that provides legal services to businesses, insurance companies, and other organizations across a wide range of industries.

Role

The successful candidate will represent corporate clients, insurance carriers, insured businesses, and other defendants in a broad range of civil litigation matters. The associate will assist in managing cases from inception through resolution, including pre-suit investigation, pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.

Responsibilities

• Defend individuals, businesses, property owners, contractors, and other insured parties in general liability and civil litigation matters.
• Handle claims involving premises liability, personal injury, property damage, negligent security, products liability, and other tort-based disputes, as assigned.
• Draft and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
• Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, fact witnesses, corporate representatives, and expert witnesses.
• Research and draft motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, motions in limine, and other substantive and procedural motions.
• Prepare legal memoranda, briefs, and other written submissions for state and federal court proceedings.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active bar admission and good standing in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Approximately 4+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in general liability defense, insurance defense, personal injury defense, or civil litigation.
• Experience drafting pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, briefs, and litigation reports.
• Familiarity with civil procedure, discovery rules, evidence, negligence principles, and tort law.

Compensation/Benefits

• Base Salary: $150-170k+, commensurate with experience.
• Additional Compensation: Annual performance-based bonus.
