Assistant Mortgage Officer (Multifamily & Affordable Housing Lending)

Role Summary:

The Assistant Mortgage Officer assists officers by providing due diligence support for the origination, closing, and conversion of multifamily loans. Responsible for ensuring all necessary loan documents are accurate and delivered to the Portfolio Services department in a timely manner. Order third party reports (credit, appraisal, engineering and environmental) and process invoices for payment. Report on status of loans for closing/conversion readiness and act as Office Manager for the Central Region/Syracuse field office.

What You’ll Do:

• Prepare closing and other related packages including: Construction and Permanent Loans (including conversions), Freddie Mac, and SONYMA for submission to the Portfolio Services department.

• Order, review and track third party reports. Prepare environmental report memos. Review construction contracts, insurance binders and other items needed for closing/conversions.

• Review loan applications and complete due diligence on Borrower and their development teams such as reference and credit checks.

• Prepare term sheets and commitment letters in cooperation with mortgage officers after the approval of loans. Review SONYMA commitments after they are issued for pension fund permanent loans.

• Oversee scanning of documents to document management system (Navigator).

• Perform market research as needed for individual projects.

• Maintain and frequently update Loan Pipeline status.

• Work with Closings Coordinator, Borrower and their team, and Mortgage Officer to complete the closing package. Provide loan closing checklists, and update items as they are received until the closing file is complete.

• Participate in conference calls regarding all loan closings and work with Borrower and PSD to schedule closing dates.

• Work with the External Affairs Department and mortgage officers to maintain contact lists, schedule and coordinate events, conferences and sponsorships and purchase event tickets.

• Act as Office Manager to order supplies, process invoices and expense reports, schedule travel, staff meetings, and perform other administrative duties, as required.

• Maintain all office administrative and project files.

• Keep office attendance records and report monthly to the CPC Central Office.

• Prepare monthly Mortgage Officer’s American Express Expense Reports.

• Perform other administrative duties, as required.

Skills and Experience:

• Undergraduate degree with 3+ years of experience in multifamily loan processing and documentation preferred; candidates with 1+ years of strong mortgage or loan processing experience will also be considered.

• Understanding of multifamily loan processing and documentation.

• Comprehension of the elements of a mortgage offering, and a clear understanding of the steps necessary to successfully close a deal.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Analytical Ability – Applies strong analytical ability to loan processing, documentation, due diligence, and closing/conversion readiness.

• Communication Skills – Uses superior communication skills to communicate clearly with internal and external parties.

• Customer Service – Provides excellent customer service to borrowers, internal partners, and other stakeholders.

• Teamwork and Collaboration – Successfully works with others as a team, including listening, negotiating and leadership skills.

• Project & Time Management – Multi-tasks and prioritizes responsibilities across loan packages, third party reports, pipeline status, and office administration.

• Initiative – Shows initiative and acts as a self-starter when supporting mortgage officers and office needs.

This is a hybrid role where you will work from the Syracuse office two-three days a week. The salary range is $75,000 – $86,000, dependent on experience.
