Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting residents with daily living activities including hygiene, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, and transport to appointments. The CNA supports efficient department functioning through clerical and communication duties and participates actively in patient care teams to ensure quality service. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene such as bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens.
• Assist in emergency situations as directed.
• Transport residents to appointments and provide assistance as needed.
• Perform range of motion exercises, ambulate patients, position patients, and provide skin care.
• Assist with feeding, meal delivery, toileting, incontinent care, and personal hygiene.
• Obtain and process urine, stool, and sputum specimens.
• Obtain and record health data including weights, vital signs, pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and intake/output.
• Communicate patient status and report changes to licensed professionals.
• Perform and explain designated patient care procedures such as incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup, and suctioning.
• Prepare rooms, supplies, and assist with admissions, discharges, and post-mortem care.
• Assist rehabilitation therapists and perform EKGs as required.
• Maintain and clean equipment and coordinate equipment/supply needs.
• Answer unit phone, direct calls, perform data entry, and document patient care appropriately.
• Perform selected patient registration activities and clerical/technical duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification at hire.

• Experience in patient care and specimen collection.
• Familiarity with electronic medical database systems.
• Ability to assist in emergency situations effectively.

• Work requires collaboration with nursing and patient care teams.
• Must be able to assist with emergency situations as they arise.
• May involve physically assisting patients with mobility and transport.

• Work schedule and shifts determined by department needs, may include day, evening, or night shifts.
• Flexibility to cover shifts and respond to patient care demands is expected.
