Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting is responsible for providing appropriate nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse. This role involves delivering skilled nursing services to residents, performing therapeutic procedures, gathering and reporting patient data, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure quality care. The position requires previous travel nursing experience, an active Alaska nursing license, and the ability to work in a fast-paced LTC environment with a focus on patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities:

Provide nursing care and therapeutic procedures as directed by an RN.
Gather and report patient data, including vital signs and clinical observations.
Administer medications and treatments according to care plans and protocols.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and daily living activities as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic charting systems.
Respond to patient needs and emergencies within scope of practice.
Comply with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including Alaska Food Worker Certification.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Current and active Alaska LVN/LPN license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in long term care nursing.
Previous travel nursing experience required.
Ability to obtain Alaska Food Worker Certification during orientation.
Valid driver's license, car insurance, and reliable transportation as needed.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience working with geriatric or frail populations in a LTC setting.
Comfort with electronic charting systems, such as ECS.
Experience with therapeutic nursing procedures and medication administration in LTC.

Special Considerations:

Must have Alaska nursing license in hand prior to start.
No on-call requirement.
Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is expected.
Travelers must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years).
RTO requests limited to no more than 2 weeks during a 26-week contract and must be submitted with application.
Locals are not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility.
Facility provides shuttle transportation at contract start and end.

Scheduling:

4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (4x12 schedule).
Shift assignment is variable but caregivers are generally not asked to rotate between day and night shifts.
Shifts will be either days or nights depending on facility needs at start date.
Guaranteed 60 hours per two-week pay period; may be called off for one 12-hour shift per pay period.
