Mental Health CounselorThe Mental Health Counselor will provide developmental and educational support to students, or other clients of the college, in the form of short-term personal counseling; provide counseling services to students in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to the Community College mission and its diverse student population. Through a comprehensive, student-centered counseling approach, to develop and present structured groups for positive growth; to develop, monitor, and provide in-service training in counseling support programs; and to do related work as required. Ability to utilize a wide range of assessment instruments for personal, career, and educational issues.The Mental Health Counselor plays a critical role as part of the Mental Health Services department. The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing clinical mental health services. This includes providing clinical mental health counseling in the individual and group setting, the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and programs, as well as consulting with faculty, staff, and administration over mental health topics. The Mental Health Counselor will participate in developing proactive mental health and wellness programming for the entire college population and assist with staff training as needed.Provide individual and group mental health counseling services to the student population, including evaluation, development, and facilitation of support groups, and making referrals to external clinicians as needed. Develop mental health programs in conjunction with the Dean of Student Services. Facilitate training and psycho-educational workshops for students, faculty, and staff. Maintain confidential clinical schedule and case files. Attend ongoing trainings as required (current updated license, etc.) Assist in the development, support, and supervision of interns, if applicable. Ability to adhere to college policies and procedures. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Should be committed to a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion. Other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, taste and smell. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
