About the Position

Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment centered on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as established policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making incorporates all phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across disciplines. Responsibilities include coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit. This involves performing nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. Facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities is also part of the role. Providing patient and family-centered education, care coordination, and individualized treatment planning as applicable is critical. The RN will perform and document comprehensive assessments in accordance with scope of practice and established policies. Consideration is given to the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identifying patient risk factors and the presenting complaint is essential. Objective and subjective data will be collected and verified. A problem list will be developed, prioritizing patient needs based on inter-professional team input. The RN will design actions and interventions relevant to the patient's culture and age. Desired outcomes will be coordinated with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care. The RN will fully implement patient care therapies and procedures. The RN will explain procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families. Action will be initiated to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Changes in patient condition will be recognized, responded to, and communicated appropriately. Ongoing assessment and responses to procedures and therapies will be conducted and documented. Tasks will be delegated appropriately, overseeing the performance of activities regarding patient care. The accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care provided by team members will be monitored. The RN will identify and address educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems. Facilitating the discharge process by executing orders in a timely manner is essential. The RN will provide input into patient/nurse assignments considering staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities is expected. Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment through words and actions is vital. Assuring nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards and evidence-based practice is a priority. Actively participating in department and unit quality improvement activities and core measures is required. A holistic perspective regarding patient care will be utilized.
