Safety and Loss Control Consultant

The salary range for this job posting is $77,450.00 - $123,921.00 annually + bonus + benefits. Pay Type: Salary Remote work is available. Ideal candidates should have experience with Package, Auto, and Workers' Compensation and reside ideally in North‑West New Jersey, with service coverage for the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. In New Jersey or Pennsylvania the range is $83,771 - $134,031 annually + bonus + benefits. Encova may hire a senior level on a higher salary range. A company vehicle will be provided for this role. The position reports to a Director, Safety and Loss Control.
JOB OBJECTIVE
The Safety and Loss Control Consultant conducts loss analysis and research prior to on‑site occupational safety and loss prevention surveys. The Consultant assesses policy holders' safety efforts, detects occupational hazards, submits reports, and makes recommendations to management to correct hazards and improve safety and loss control program needs. The role also participates in management training programs, researches literature, laws, standards, and technical developments, and provides the Underwriting Department with risk assessments to support underwriting determinations. The Consultant works with standard to large accounts and accounts with complex hazard and safety issues. Mentorship of trainees, training sessions for policyholders, and a deep knowledge of all Standard and large accounts is expected.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Consults with policy holders to improve the occupational safety programs and performance, leading to safer workplaces. Provides underwriters with information concerning the level of safety of policy holders. Evaluates policy holder safety programs and work sites for hazardous conditions. Conducts simple Industrial Hygiene testing. Researches literature, standards, laws, and rules to provide effective solutions to policy holders. Develops cost‑effective methods to correct hazardous conditions. Analyzes loss information to determine accident trends and provide effective solutions. Provides underwriting with accurate and timely reports on hazards, control effectiveness, and policy holder compliance. Keeps underwriting apprised of any changes in hazards or exposures through reports and special communications. Responds to requests from policy holders, underwriters, and agencies regarding safety issues. Communicates ideas and issues with management to reach successful agreements through innovation, creativity, and compromise. Provides leadership and motivation to support staff to achieve loss control goals and objectives.OTHER FUNCTIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; preferably in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field. Preference may be given to applicants with a master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene. Preference may be given to applicants with two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time occupational safety management or consulting experience. Certification as CSP, CIH, ARM, or ASP is preferred. Knowledge of core elements within the occupational safety and industrial hygiene process. Knowledge of effective safety program management. Knowledge of risk management as it relates to safety and industrial hygiene in business operations. Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, policies, and rules. Basic understanding of guaranteed cost, deductibles, retrospective rating plans, and accident prevention impact. Knowledge of rating systems, experience modification calculation methods, and formula elements. Understanding of the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics loss information and incidence rate calculations. Knowledge of basic business financial principles to analyze cost effectiveness and ROI of recommended hazard solutions. Ability to make sound judgments, work independently, and establish effective relationships with policy holders, regulatory agencies, and labor communities. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to compile, analyze, and report on findings. Knowledge of Federal OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and NFPA standards. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle; must hold a valid driver's license.BENEFITS
