Field Service Technician

The client builds and supports specialized industrial equipment used in manufacturing environments, with Field Service Technicians playing a direct role in keeping customer operations running. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving a different technical problem every day rather than working from a desk or repeating the same maintenance tasks. The client has an established service operation, invests in developing its technicians, and provides opportunities to build deeper expertise with complex automated machinery.
You'll travel to customer facilities to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial equipment, working directly with plant personnel and other technicians. A typical assignment might involve electrical troubleshooting one day, PLC diagnostics the next, and helping bring a new machine online after an installation. You'll read electrical schematics and engineering drawings, diagnose complex equipment issues, and take ownership of getting the customer back up and running. You'll also train operators and maintenance personnel on equipment operation and maintenance, so being able to explain technical information clearly is just as important as knowing how to fix the problem.
Location: Anywhere near a major airport
Schedule: Primarily mid-week through weekends, but weekends and holidays are required; average trips are 3-4 days, with occasional 2-3 week assignments
Compensation: $30-$35/hour target; OT after 8hr days and Saturday + double time on Sundays and holidays $100K+ first-year
Travel: Extensive domestic travel with occasional international travel; travel time is paid and on the clock
Key Systems/Equipment: Corrugating and finishing machinery; Allen-Bradley, Siemens and BNR PLC-based controls; electrical and mechanical systems
