Working in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers, they create personalized, evidence‑based treatment plans using exercise and manual therapy to help patients recover and become independent. Essential Work Functions Evaluate patients’ physical conditions using standardized tests, clinical examinations, and patient history to identify functional limitations and treatment needs. Develop personalized rehabilitation programs based on assessment findings and patient goals. Implement physical therapy treatment plans using various techniques to improve patient mobility and reduce pain. Operate specialized equipment and modalities safely and effectively, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration. Assess patient progress, adjust plans, and accurately document evaluations, interventions, and outcomes. Work closely with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care. Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, body mechanics, injury prevention, and self‑management techniques. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines. Engage in quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities to remain current with best practices. Collaborate in discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions and continued progress. Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice. Required Essential Skills Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Reading and comprehension of written instructions, following verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills. Physical abilities – maintain stationary position, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, bend. Interpersonal skills – work effectively with a variety of personnel, present a positive attitude and professionalism. Technical/Motor skills – grasp fine manipulation, push/pull, assist procedures and use equipment. Mental requirements – cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, work with or without close supervision, handle irregular activity schedules, maintain concentration to detail.
