OFF-SEASON ROPES CHALLENGE COURSE FACILITATOR (Seasonal)

SUMMARY :

The Off-Season Ropes Course Facilitator is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of ropes challenge course and programs. Facilitators provide instruction, supervision, and support to participants while fostering teamwork, personal growth, leadership, and confidence in a safe and positive environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Follow all applicable standards, regulations, and guidelines established by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), the American Camp Association (ACA), and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
• Facilitate games, initiatives, team-building activities, and ropes challenge course experiences for participants of varying ages and abilities.
• Instruct participants on the proper use of ropes challenge course elements, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Develop and implement progressive ropes challenge course experiences that support program goals and participant development.
• Provide participants with appropriate and attainable challenges that encourage personal growth, confidence, and teamwork.
• Maintain a strong culture of safety by modeling safe practices and ensuring adherence to all ropes challenge course procedures.
• Promptly report all accidents, incidents, equipment concerns, and safety hazards to the Ropes Challenge Course Manager.
• Conduct inspections of ropes challenge course elements, equipment, and program areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper working condition prior to each program.
• Ensure the proper use, care, storage, and maintenance of all ropes challenge course equipment.
• Maintain accurate equipment records and documentation in the Ropes Challenge Course Equipment Log.
• Attend and actively participate in required trainings, refreshers, certifications, and professional development opportunities, including a minimum of one facilitator refresher training annually. MUST be trained on both ropes challenge courses (Piperwood & Seven Hills) in order to facilitate a program on a designated course. 
• Successfully demonstrate required facilitation, rescue, and safety skills as outlined in the facilitator assessment process.
• Complete evaluations, timesheets, incident reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
• Participate in facilitator evaluations, mentoring, and advancement processes.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, and fellow staff members.
• Support and actively promote the mission, values, and goals of Girl Scouts of Western New York.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to following the policies, procedures, and mission of Girl Scouts of Western New York.
• Demonstrated mastery of skills identified in the appropriate Ropes Challenge Course Facilitator evaluation and assessment process.
• Minimum of 60 documented program hours as a Challenge Course Facilitator-in-Training or equivalent documented challenge course experience approved by the Ropes Challenge Course Manager-Coordinator/Sr. Director of Outdoor Program.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, instruct, and support children and adults in an outdoor recreation setting.
• Current certification in RTE and CPR Pro, or willingness to obtain certification during designated training.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a facilitation team.
• Physical stamina and good health necessary to safely perform challenge course facilitation duties.
• Availability to work weekends and scheduled program dates.
• Commitment to continued professional development and progression within the challenge course program, including working toward an additional 100 program hours for advancement opportunities.
• Minimum age of 18 years.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
• Possess the physical strength, endurance, mobility, and balance necessary to safely facilitate challenge course activities.
• Maintain constant awareness and supervision of participants during all activities.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and effective decision-making in dynamic environments.
• Exhibit enthusiasm, patience, flexibility, self-control, and a positive attitude.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to the diverse needs of participants.
• Participate in both structured and unstructured program activities.
• Effectively follow and communicate verbal and written instructions.
• Provide exceptional customer service and represent Girl Scouts of Western New York in a professional manner.
• Uphold and implement the mission, goals, and values of Girl Scouts of Western New York. 

PAY RATE:
$115/Half Day - $165/Full Day

 

GIRL SCOUT MEMBERSHIP:

All Employees of Girl Scouts must maintain an active, annual membership in Girl Scouts of Western New York. This membership must be renewed annually, and all newly hired employees are expected to enroll with GSWNY within the first 30 days of their employment.

EXEMPTION:

Girl Scouts of Western New York seasonal camp and camp-related positions are subject to the Federal and New York State exemption laws under Section 13(a)(3) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Seasonal staff working at camp may be paid in accordance with this exemption. Seasonal employees are not eligible for company-sponsored group benefits.
