Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced L&D RN for a 26-week travel contract at a Magnet-designated academic medical center, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Labor & Delivery unit at a Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital with 637 staffed beds
• Extreme high-risk Level 3 Perinatal Center — approximately 70% of patients are complex high-risk cases
• Level 4 NICU on-site serving as a regional center
• Patient population includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care
• Patient ratio is 1:1
• Approximately 150 births per month
• Unit has 2 ORs for C-sections, BTLs, and postpartum D&Cs
• Second L&D RN serves as 'baby catcher' for well, non-compromised newborns
• Unit also provides outpatient services when the clinic is closed
• Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:30
• Weekend work required
• Floating within the hospital required; no floating to sister hospitals
• No on-call requirement
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
• Charting system: Epic (experience required)

Requirements

• Active WA RN license or compact license currently in hand (pending license not accepted)
• Minimum 2–3 years of L&D nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and FHM
• Preferred certifications: AWHONN Intermediate, EFM Certification, NCC
• COVID vaccination (including booster) required — no exceptions
• 2 professional references required, supervisory references preferred
• Teaching hospital and trauma hospital experience preferred
• Academic medical center experience preferred for first-time travelers
• Experience with high-risk antepartum, labor & delivery, and mother/baby settings
• Proficiency with key L&D skills including: IV therapy, administration of blood products, central line maintenance, labor management, assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, C-section circulation, amnioinfusion, and hemorrhage/shock management
• Experience with fetal monitoring (external and internal), EFM interpretation, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Experience with obstetric medications including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, antihypertensives, antiseizure agents, prostaglandins, and insulin drips
• Neonatal delivery room skills required: APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, cord sample collection, ID/security banding
• Postpartum care experience: episiotomy/incisional care, fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, Foley catheter management, breastfeeding support, and wound care
• Prior UW employment requires 18 months of separation before consideration as a traveler

Additional Information

• Care responsibilities span antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients in a high-risk perinatal setting
• Nurses are expected to circulate for C-sections and support surgical cases including tubal ligations and D&Cs
• First-time travelers are accepted, ideally with prior academic medical center experience
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction
• RTO is limited to 1 week maximum; no RTO during the first 2 weeks of the assignment (including orientation week)
• 26-week contract (13-week minimum); interest in extended contracts is welcome
• Non-billable orientation modules are completed prior to start: approximately 6–8 hours for RN and 2 additional hours for L&D-specific OBIX modules
• WA state suicide prevention training (approx. 6 hours) may be required for those working with the MSL population
• Scrubs may be any color; scrubs are provided for OR personnel
• Parking is available on-site at a daily cost
