Card Specialist

The Debit Card Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration, support, and maintenance of the credit union's debit card program. This position provides exceptional service to members by assisting with debit card issuance, fraud prevention, dispute processing, transaction research, and card maintenance while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and network requirements. The Debit Card Specialist works closely with members, frontline staff, core processors, and third-party vendors to ensure a secure and efficient card experience. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Process new debit card requests, replacements, renewals, and instant issue cards. 2. Activate, block, reissue, and close debit cards as requested by members or due to fraud concerns. 3. Monitor daily fraud alerts and take appropriate action to minimize losses. 4. Investigate suspicious debit card activity and contact members regarding potentially fraudulent transactions. 5. Process debit card disputes and chargebacks in accordance with Regulation E, Visa®, Mastercard®, and network rules. 6. Maintain accurate documentation for all disputes and fraud investigations. 7. Work with third-party debit card processors and fraud monitoring vendors to resolve card-related issues. 8. Assist members with PIN resets, travel notifications, digital wallet enrollment, and card controls. 9. Research and resolve member inquiries regarding declined transactions, authorization holds, merchant disputes, and transaction errors. 10. Ensure debit card limits and restrictions are properly maintained according to credit union policy. 11. Balance and reconcile debit card settlement reports as assigned. 12. Assist in testing and implementation of new debit card products, software enhancements, and system upgrades. 13. Monitor reports for compromised cards and coordinate reissuance efforts when necessary. 14. Maintain knowledge of emerging fraud trends and recommend improvements to reduce losses. 15. Provide training and guidance to frontline employees regarding debit card procedures and fraud prevention. 16. Maintain confidentiality of member information and comply with all privacy and security requirements. 17. Cross-sell and educate members on additional credit union products and electronic services that meet their financial needs. 18. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Excellent customer service and communication skills. 2. Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities. 3. Ability to investigate and resolve complex member issues. 4. Knowledge of debit card processing, fraud prevention, and electronic payment systems. 5. Familiarity with Regulation E, card network operating rules, and payment industry best practices. 6. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. 7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and credit union core processing systems. 9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Required Qualifications: 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2. Degree in business, finance, banking, or a related field preferred but not required. 3. One to three years of experience in financial services, debit card operations, electronic services, fraud prevention, or member service preferred. 4. Experience with debit card processing platforms and fraud monitoring systems is preferred. 5. Knowledge of electronic funds transfer regulations and payment card operations is preferred.
