Position Summary The SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP) evaluates, plans, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric with acquired or congenital impairments in cognition, communication, or swallowing functions for the purpose of training or restoring the highest possible level of functional independence. The SLP conducts video swallow evaluations in the Radiology Department with a Radiologist and necessary Radiology Department staff, collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team, prepares written documentation, schedules patient treatments and meetings, supervises Rehabilitation Aides and Student SLPs, assists with in-service training and continuing education programs, and may participate in performance improvement activities and processes. Position Title Speech Language Pathologist – PRN at Olathe Hospital Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Conduct speech-language pathology evaluation following education, training, professional codes of ethics, standards, and department policy. Perform patient interview and evaluate speech, language, voice, fluency, cognition, and dysphagia, make appropriate referrals, inform patients and families of results, and plan treatment programs. Establish and carry out treatment programs based on evaluation results and ongoing reassessments. Administer treatment, recommend improvements, evaluate effects, adjust treatments to achieve optimal benefits, and recommend adaptive and assistive equipment. Educate nursing personnel, patients, families, and professional staff—including OT, SLP, Social Service, and Nutritional Care—about the objectives of SLP. Enlist other professionals to observe patient’s speech and swallowing patterns and to carry out suggestions made by the SLP. Instruct patient and family in home management procedures. Confer with physicians and other health care practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment programs, and integrate SLP treatment with other aspects of patient health care. Manage patient schedule to maximize efficiency and productivity toward SLP target and reduce cancellations. Prepare written documentation for patient evaluation and treatment sessions per department policy, including initial status, problems, goals, estimated completion date, treatment plan, progress reports, discharge reports, and outpatient charts. Complete and submit end‑user audit reports and volume reports on the date of service, accurately charge patients based on services provided, visits, units billed, and cancellations. Supervise the work of Rehabilitation Aides, orienting, instructing, and directing their activities related to patient treatment programs and department operations. Perform professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies required for the assigned unit or department. These statements describe essential functions of the job and are not exhaustive. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited SLP education program. Preferred Education and Experience Previous healthcare experience. Required Licensure and Certification Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) – includes licenses for all other states upon hire.
