Job Title: Decontamination Material Handler

Job Description

The Decontamination Material Handler is responsible for the safe, compliant handling, decontamination, sterilization, documentation, and logistics of complaint and returned medical devices. This role ensures strict adherence to FDA and internal quality standards, maintains complete traceability and inventory accuracy, and collaborates closely with Quality and Operations teams to support regulatory compliance and efficient material flow.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with company policies and procedures.

• Comply with all established safety, health, and environmental regulations and requirements at all times.

• Decontaminate complaint and returned materials using industrial washers, sterilizers, and approved methods, following defined work instructions for each cycle.

• Accurately document all decontamination results in accordance with procedural and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain complete and accurate decontamination logs to ensure full traceability and compliance with FDA and internal standards.

• Log received complaint and returned materials into the complaints database and ERP system to maintain end-to-end product traceability.

• Perform required inventory transactions, adjustments, and updates within the ERP system to support inventory accuracy.

• Immediately report any safety, quality, or operational deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.

• Remove complaint material from processing loads as needed and coordinate logistics to send materials to designated laboratories for testing.

• Ensure all testing requirements are clearly documented and included with shipped samples sent to laboratories or external partners.

• Initiate and monitor computerized sterilization cycles in accordance with vendor specifications and validated processes.

• Review sterilization records and cycle data to confirm compliance with internal procedures, FDA requirements, and quality standards.

• Prepare devices and materials for cleaning and sterilization validation activities in support of quality and regulatory initiatives.

• Partner closely with the Quality Department to maintain regulatory compliance and support investigations or audits as needed.

• Investigate and resolve non-conforming inventory to ensure correct material disposition and processing.

• Quarantine discrepant complaint material and coordinate return logistics to end customers when applicable and authorized.

• Collaborate with the Supervisor and team members to ensure availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), decontamination chemicals, and other required materials.

• Coordinate the compliant disposal of biohazardous materials and expired chemicals in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.

• Support document control, filing, and record-keeping activities related to inventory, decontamination, and shipping and receiving.

• Assist with inventory control tasks, including cycle counts and inventory management activities, to maintain accurate stock levels.

• Participate in shipping, receiving, packing, picking, and general warehouse and material handling tasks as needed.

• Contribute to a collaborative, cross-functional environment by effectively communicating with Quality, Operations, and other internal teams.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required, with the high school name listed on the resume.

• At least 2 years of relevant experience in material handling, inventory, warehouse, or related operations.

• Advanced SAP knowledge and hands-on experience using SAP for inventory and transaction management.

• Knowledge of FDA regulations and internal quality and compliance requirements applicable to medical devices and materials handling.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Strong numerical and analytical skills to support accurate documentation, inventory transactions, and data review.

• Ability to clearly document data, maintain accurate logs, and follow detailed procedural requirements.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Ability to work independently after training while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

• Ability to comply with GMPs, SOPs, and safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Forklift experience is a plus; willingness to obtain forklift certification is required if needed for the role.

• Experience with document control, inventory control, cycle counts, and inventory management.

• Experience in shipping and receiving, packing, picking, and general warehouse or material handling work.

• Advanced knowledge of applicable product lines and customer fulfillment processes.

• Expertise in SAP, Quest, and Salesforce event management processes.

• Experience working with ERP systems and complaints databases for product traceability.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently in a fast-paced environment.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and operational needs.

• Ability to build strong internal and external working relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and matrix teams.

• English language proficiency required for documentation, communication, and compliance with procedural requirements.

Work Environment

You work primarily onsite in a controlled warehouse and decontamination environment focused on safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance. After you complete training, you perform most tasks independently while still being part of a tight-knit team of approximately 7–8 colleagues. You handle medical devices and materials using industrial washers, sterilizers, and related equipment, and you regularly work within systems such as SAP, ERP platforms, complaints databases, and Microsoft Office tools. Typical shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday overtime that is not typically mandatory. The environment emphasizes the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of biohazardous materials and chemicals, with clear procedures for disposal and decontamination. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Santa Barbara, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $39000.00 - $40000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
