Job Title HVAC Controls Technician (Building Automation Technician) Location Pentagon, Federal Systems team Compensation and Benefits Pay range: $43.00 - $58.00 per hour (negotiable based on experience) Company Vehicle: Yes Shift: Day shift, 6:30am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation per calendar year Eligible for benefits on first day of employment Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, troubleshooting, and/or replacement of HVAC controls systems (BAS systems) and related mechanical equipment; most work involves Johnson Controls Metasys and Distech controls. Diagnose and repair a variety of electronic and digital control system malfunctions. Test and modify systems software when needed. Assist with sketching and documenting field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. Provide training and associated manuals and documentation to customers on electronic control systems operations. Assist mechanical staff with troubleshooting issues and minor mechanical maintenance. Ensure work performed complies with company, federal regulations, industry standards and guidelines, and customer requirements. Compile project documentation such as certificates of completion, customer training forms, training certificates, and punch lists. Conduct self‑study (reading, research, and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company product lines; complete certifications as required. Read and properly interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics, and operational product manuals. Adhere to Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, provide safety awareness leadership and instruction to technicians and subcontractors on Johnson Controls work sites. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience working with HVAC Controls (Direct Digital Controls), VAVs, VRFs, or other related systems and equipment. Knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems, HVAC control systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques. The ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges as required for site duties. Preferred Experience Technical knowledge and experience working with Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, or Distech Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. Programming and/or troubleshooting experience with various brands of HVAC controls products such as Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Distech, Carrier, ALC, and Andover. Experience with BAS communication protocols, including at least one of BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, and/or LON. Experience using SMP, SCT, and/or CCT. Preferred Education Technical schooling, bachelor’s, associate’s, or related degree in engineering, electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, HVAC, or a related field; relevant experience is acceptable.
