CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Geospatial Field Technician in our Austin San Antonio & San Marcos office.

Requirements

EDUCATION REGISTRATION CERTIFICATION //

• Highschool diploma GED or demonstrated equivalent combination of education training and experience required.

EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITY (KSA)

Emerging // Basic understanding and minimal practical experience; requires guidance and supervision. No experience is required.

• Knowledge of field operations methods procedures safety requirements and environmental considerations associated with civil infrastructure work in outdoor settings.
• Skills include use of industry-standard tools equipment and computer software to perform field tasks document work and communicate effectively.
• Ability to safely operate required equipment travel locally regionally and interstate with occasional overnight stays and perform work in varying weather terrain and environmental conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES //

Ultimately the Field Technician is responsible for the success of field operations to support project completion.

1. General //

• Perform assigned tasks with supervision and follow established procedures.
• Develop foundational technical and field skills.
• Responsible for safely operating equipment.
• Travel locally and out of state including overnights.
• May operate a variety of vehicles including large vehicles with or without attached trailers as needed to support specific operational tasks and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use.
• May cross train to perform other field services (Telecommunications Survey SUE).

2. Safety Compliance //

• Learn and comply with all basic safety procedures: Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Project Safety Plans (PSP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
• Observe and follow QA/QC processes under supervision.
• Identifying and evaluating potential hazards in the work environment.
• Properly selecting and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Develop general understanding of Traffic Control Plans (TCP).
• Begin familiarization with Federal State and local codes regulations and standards governing projects in their respective field.

3. Technical //

• Assist Geospatial Party Chief in the collection of survey data or staking out construction points based on elevations of the job site.
• Construction Staking including but not limited to hammering iron rods wood lathes & hubs.
• Boundary & Topographical surveying duties under the supervision of a Party Chief to include but not limited to clearing brush and digging holes.
• Positioning prism pole over desired point setting up backsights.
• Daily inventory to restock supplies as needed for projects.
• Opening manholes in accordance with safety procedures.
• Utilities operating in and around hand holes/hole boxes vaults.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Tasks are divided between indoor and outdoor settings with approximately 80% of duties performed in outdoor environments and 20% in indoor office or warehouse spaces.

• Cognitive Requirements. Must remain alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high-traffic and dynamic areas.
• Physical Abilities. Includes hand-eye coordination steadiness upper and lower body strength control precision stamina multi-limb coordination static strength manual dexterity and depth perception. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation or job site. Movement within the office and job sites including navigating between floors workstations high-traffic areas and various walking surfaces. Forward flexion extension or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard. Includes activities such as reaching bending stooping carrying lifting pushing pulling and handling. Extending hands and arms in various directions such as overhead below the waist forward or laterally. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands arms or over the shoulder. Capable of lifting carrying and balancing equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds in various environments including remote rural or urban settings. Ability to walk long distances (3 miles) and climb on uneven surfaces.
• Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers printers copiers scanners plotters and telephones. Additionally tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
• Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces confined spaces and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens including poison ivy sumac dust pollen and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals insects and plants. Ability to move effectively in and around construction sites traffic work zones and other outdoor assignments.
• Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required along with use of pneumatic hand and power tools.
• Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers potentially operating watercraft and for extended periods of time.

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

• This is a full-time position generally 40 hours per week however hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
• CobbFendleys standard operating hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload primarily for field staff.
