Financial Payment Accuracy & Recovery Analyst III

Houston, TX | Onsite | 12+ month contract

iSphere is looking for a Financial Payment Accuracy & Recovery Analyst who knows how to spot the difference between "that invoice looks high" and "somebody has been overbilling us for six months and nobody caught it."

This role sits at the intersection of Finance, AP, Contracts, Operations, and Commercial teams, focused on identifying payment errors, recovering money tied to incorrect invoices, and helping build processes that stop the same mistakes from happening again.

A big part of the role is contract interpretation. Not the fun "legal drama" version of contract work either... the real-world version where one sentence buried on page 47 quietly changes how millions of dollars should've been billed.

The work includes reviewing invoices against contracts and rate structures, identifying duplicate payments or unauthorized charges, tracing root causes, supporting recovery efforts, and helping improve controls and payment processes across the business.

What matters most for this role:

• Strong financial analysis experience
• Experience auditing invoices and identifying payment discrepancies
• Ability to interpret contracts and apply terms to financial transactions
• ERP experience, ideally SAP
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical and root cause investigation skills
• Ability to work across Finance, Operations, AP, Legal, and Commercial teams

Experience with railroad operations, transportation invoicing, Power BI, Tableau, or large operational datasets is a strong plus.

The team needs somebody who's naturally skeptical in a healthy way. Someone who sees a number that doesn't make sense and actually keeps digging instead of assuming "someone else probably checked it already."

There's also a process improvement side to the role. This isn't just about finding bad payments after the fact. The goal is to identify where controls failed, improve workflows, tighten validation processes, and reduce future payment leakage across the organization.

The right person for this role is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable asking uncomfortable questions when the numbers don't line up. Because eventually somebody has to be the adult in the room when invoices start doing creative math.
