POSITION SUMMARY

The Visitor Services Staff / Venue Assistant serves as a welcoming and professional representative of the Osceola County Historical Society. This position supports daily museum operations, visitor services, admissions, gift shop operations, events, field trips, and venue rentals at OCHS properties.

Employees may be scheduled at either museum location and are expected to learn basic information about OCHS, its properties, exhibits, programs, and the history of Osceola County.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Visitor Services

• Welcome visitors and provide friendly, professional customer service.

• Provide basic information about exhibits, historic structures, programs, events, and OCHS properties.

• Answer visitor questions and refer more complex questions to appropriate staff.

• Assist school groups, tours, families, renters, vendors, and community partners.

• Promote OCHS programs, events, memberships, and other opportunities when appropriate.

Admissions & Gift Shop

• Process admissions, merchandise sales, memberships, donations, and other transactions.

• Accurately operate the point-of-sale system and handle cash and credit transactions.

• Maintain an organized, attractive, and adequately stocked visitor services and gift shop area.

• Complete required cash and transaction records.

Museum & Property Operations

• Complete assigned opening and closing procedures.

• Maintain clean, organized, and visitor-ready public spaces.

• Monitor exhibits, historic structures, grounds, restrooms, and other visitor areas and report maintenance, safety, or preservation concerns.

• Assist with field trips, tours, educational programs, special events, and general museum activities.

• At Pioneer Village, assist with assigned animal care and monitoring of historic structures and outdoor areas.

Venue & Event Support

• Assist with preparation, setup, and cleanup for rentals, meetings, programs, and special events.

• Welcome renters and guests and provide basic information about venue spaces and OCHS procedures.

• Help ensure rental spaces are properly prepared and used in accordance with OCHS policies.

• Remain available during assigned rentals and report concerns, damages, or safety issues to management.

• Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for visitors and staff.

• Follow established emergency, safety, cash-handling, and operational procedures.

• Report emergencies, injuries, hazards, suspicious activity, or property concerns promptly.

• Maintain dependable attendance, professional conduct, and appropriate confidentiality.

• Work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners.

• Perform other reasonable duties necessary for the successful operation of OCHS properties.

• Ability and willingness to learn about Osceola County history and OCHS properties.

• Ability to follow procedures and handle basic financial transactions accurately.

• Basic computer and point-of-sale skills or willingness to learn.

• Good judgment and ability to respond appropriately to routine and unexpected situations.
