Certified Medical Assistant - Cardiology - MUSCP

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the Cardiology team at the MUSC Clements Ferry Pavilion. This role involves rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, returning patient messages, giving injections, and assisting with minor procedures. Experience in Cardiology and Stress Testing is preferred. The team works in a fast‑paced environment and offers opportunities for cross‑training in other specialties. Scheduled work hours: Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays. Free on‑site parking. Responsibilities Duties to include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, returning patient messages, giving injections, and assisting with minor procedures. Ensure accurate calibration, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and the University Medical Associates, documenting all actions. Maintain and review patient records and charts as well as any other pertinent information, documenting test and exam results and communicating the plan of care and patient education materials as necessary. Maintain exam room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient care environment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and UMA. Maintain timely flow of patients, assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability, screen patients for appropriate information, and provide patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment. Observe, record, and report patient’s physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to the physician. Respond to and triage phone calls, call in orders as instructed by the physician, instruct patients regarding treatment or medication, and monitor and distribute medication including samples and controlled substances. Triage patients, prepare for physician exams and procedures, assist with exams, procedures, and treatments as necessary, instruct patients on collection of samples and tests, and administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician. Minimum Training and Education High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations Must be certified through AMT, AAMA, NHA, NAHP, MedCA, NCCT, or NAHP. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Physical Requirements Continuously perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions, and reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected. Frequently lift, lower, push, pull, or carry objects weighing 50 lbs [+/-] unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force. Work in a latex‑safe environment and indoors.
