Analytics Engineer (Microsoft Fabric / Power BI)

Job Title : Analytics Engineer (Microsoft Fabric / Power BI) Duration: 12+ Months Location: Walnut Creek, CA (Hybrid) Summary Owns the part of the analytics stack: the semantic model, the business measures, and the reports built on them. Modeling, defining measures once, and turning them into reporting people trust. This is a code-first role. Transformation logic is SQL and dbt-style modeling against the warehouse, not visual pipeline tooling. Responsibilities Design and build semantic models: structure, relationships, grain, cardinality, business measures, and consumer-facing naming. Write and own business measure DAX in the model, including time intelligence and the filter-context work. Build and maintain SQL-based transformation logic from source through to reporting-ready tables. Own model performance and refresh behavior across Direct Lake and Import modes, including Delta layout and fallback conditions. Build Power BI reports and dashboards against your own models; own visualization choices and report performance. Implement row-level and object-level security to the approved design. Validate source-to-target and regression test when shared models change. Promote changes through Git and deployment pipelines across dev/test/prod. Document measure definitions, refresh timing, and known limitations; demo working increments to the business. Work directly with business stakeholders to turn ambiguous asks into defined requirements. Required 5+ years in analytics engineering, BI development, or data warehousing. Production ownership of Power BI semantic models — not reports built on a model someone else owns. Strong DAX: measures vs. calculated columns, filter context, time intelligence. Strong SQL: T-SQL, SQL Server, stored procedures, window functions, CTEs, performance tuning. Dimensional modeling and star schema. Data warehouse design and development experience. Row-level security in production. Git-based version control for BI and data assets, with dev/test/prod promotion. Power Query (M). Direct experience running requirements conversations and business demos. Preferred Dbt or SQLMesh- transformation as code, with testing and lineage. DP-600 Certification- Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (semantic modeling, Lakehouse, DAX). Hands-on Microsoft Fabric: Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Direct Lake, deployment pipelines.
