Dream big and create the future of mobility at Magna Electronics.Job Responsibilities:We are seeking a Systems and Software Quality Engineer (SYS/SW Quality Engineer) to serve as a proactive quality partner for automotive electronics programs, driving engineering excellence through independent quality assurance, process discipline, and risk prevention. This role is responsible for establishing quality strategies that enable teams to anticipate challenges, strengthen development practices, and ensure robust objective evidence throughout the product lifecycle.The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to proactively evaluate customer requirements, requirements quality, traceability, verification readiness, review effectiveness, and overall compliance with internal processes and automotive standards. By identifying potential risks, gaps, and quality concerns early in development, this role helps prevent downstream issues, improve development efficiency, strengthen milestone readiness, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.As the SYS/SW Quality Engineer for assigned programs, you will define and execute the Engineering Quality strategy, develop and maintain the Engineering Quality Management Plan, and drive activities that ensure development readiness at every stage. This includes conducting process compliance and work product quality assessments, facilitating pre-gate and gate reviews, monitoring corrective actions to closure, supporting audits and assessments, and providing clear, actionable quality insights to program and leadership teams. Through early engagement, data-driven decision-making, and continuous quality oversight, you will help ensure predictable program execution and successful product launches.This position is ideal for a quality-minded professional with experience in automotive electronics, embedded product development, ASPICE, requirements-based development, verification and validation processes, assessments, and structured problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about driving quality upstream, preventing defects before they occur, and enabling teams to deliver compliant, high-quality products with confidence.What You Will DoDefine, communicate, and drive the Engineering Quality strategy for assigned programs, ensuring alignment with customer, regulatory, and organizational objectives.Establish, maintain, and actively execute the Engineering Quality Management Plan to ensure effective quality governance throughout the product development lifecycle.Lead Engineering Quality planning activities, including requirements reviews, work product reviews, process compliance assessments, quality audits, gate readiness evaluations, and executive quality reporting.Proactively assess work product quality and process compliance to identify gaps, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement in engineering execution.Evaluate requirements quality and end-to-end bidirectional traceability, ensuring implementation and verification evidence is complete, consistent, and sufficient to support product readiness and compliance.Drive visibility into defect and change request performance by monitoring status, aging, priority, and closure trends; proactively identify risks and escalate emerging concerns before they impact program objectives.Coach and influence program teams to establish clear Definition of Done (DoD) criteria and achieve high-quality E-Gate deliverables.Actively participate in key work product reviews to independently challenge assumptions, verify objective evidence, and ensure quality, completeness, consistency, and process adherence.Provide independent SYS/SW Quality readiness assessments and drive informed go/no-go decisions for major customer releases through objective evaluation of quality risks and development maturity.Monitor software supplier quality performance, identify adverse trends early, and drive risk mitigation and escalation activities in partnership with supplier management organizations.Champion proactive product and engineering risk management by collaborating with program teams to identify, assess, and reduce quality-related risks throughout development.Drive corrective actions to timely closure and verify sustainable effectiveness through objective evidence and measurable results.Deliver clear, data-driven reporting on Engineering Quality objectives, readiness, findings, risks, and overall program health to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.Influence continuous improvement of engineering processes by providing actionable feedback, sharing lessons learned, and driving improvements with process owners.Represent Engineering Quality during internal and external assessments, demonstrating program quality readiness and promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.Drive accountability by ensuring assessment findings are assigned, tracked, escalated when necessary, and effectively resolved.Lead and facilitate systemic analysis, root-cause investigations, and data-driven problem-solving activities to prevent recurrence of quality issues.Facilitate structured problem-solving efforts across requirements, architecture, implementation, integration, verification, validation, and release readiness to ensure robust and sustainable solutions.Collaborate and influence cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, division quality, functional safety, cybersecurity, validation, industrialization, and release organizations to achieve program quality objectives.Prepare and coach program teams for successful internal and external ASPICE assessments by driving readiness, compliance, and evidence completeness.Champion the SYS/SW Quality escalation process by proactively identifying concerns, driving visibility, and ensuring timely escalation of issues impacting quality, compliance, or delivery commitments.What We Are Looking ForRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in systems, software, electrical, computer, mechanical, or another relevant engineering discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.5+ years of experience in engineering quality, system/software quality, engineering development process, automotive product development, project management, or a similar role within the automotive electronics industry.Demonstrated experience evaluating engineering work products, process compliance, traceability, verification evidence, and program-level quality risks.Experience performing quality assurance activities at the program or project level.Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle processes and work product quality expectations.Experience with audits, assessments, reviews, corrective action tracking, and quality reporting.Experience with structured problem solving and root cause analysis methods, such as 8D, 5-Why, etc.Preferred Knowledge and ExperiencePractical experience applying Automotive SPICE within an automotive systems or software development program.Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.Knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO 21434 cybersecurity.Familiarity with customer-specific requirements and automotive legal/regulatory expectations.Understanding of VDA requirements.Experience with requirements management, change management, issue management, configuration management, release management, project management, SYS development, SW development and verification/validation management.Experience supporting system, software, hardware, mechanical, industrialization, or embedded electronics development programs.Tools You May UseCodebeamerOutlookExcelPowerPointWindchillALM / PLM toolsRequirements management toolsConfiguration and document management systemsIssue and change management toolsAwareness, Unity, Empowerment:At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success.
