About the role

A San Francisco-based startup is seeking a versatile full-stack engineer to join its growing technology team. This role offers the opportunity to help scale the platform, build dynamic infrastructure, and implement practical AI solutions. You'll contribute directly to products used daily by engaged users, making your work immediately visible and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead feature development from initial concept through design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Define, enforce, and improve coding standards, architecture guidelines, and testing practices across the engineering team.
• Mentor colleagues and advocate best practices in software development and collaboration.
• Work closely with users and stakeholders to clarify requirements and translate them into functional, high-quality products.
• Build and maintain scalable backend systems using modern frameworks, databases, and cloud platforms.
• Develop responsive, intuitive front-end interfaces using contemporary frameworks, languages, and design systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and reliable code with minimal supervision.
• Make strategic technical decisions, refine workflows, and optimize processes for efficiency and scalability.
• Operate effectively in a fast-moving environment, delivering results while continuously learning and iterating.

Requirements

• Have 2-6 years of experience in full-stack development, including ownership of features, products, or system improvements.
• Be proficient across backend and frontend technologies, with the ability to connect databases, APIs, and user-facing interfaces.
• Maintain high standards for both technical quality and user experience.
• Demonstrate independent leadership on projects and initiatives.
• Be recognized as a technical resource, able to guide team practices and set engineering standards.
• Thrive in ambiguous or rapidly evolving environments, solving problems with limited guidance.
• Possess strong instincts for product design, quality, and continuous improvement.

Backend

• Python and modern web frameworks
• Relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
• Cloud-based infrastructure and deployment
• RESTful and GraphQL API design
• System architecture and scalability planning

Frontend

• Modern JavaScript frameworks (React, TypeScript, Next.js)
• CSS frameworks and UI component libraries
• State management (Redux, React Query, or similar)
• Performance optimization and accessibility best practices

General

• Testing frameworks and tools (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright)
• Code review, documentation, and engineering workflow practices
• Familiarity with analytics for driving product decisions
