The Office for Student Success Learning Communities team is seeking a Program Coordinator I who will plan, organize, direct, and manage the event programming associated with the GTF, Century Scholars, and First Year Eats learning communities at Texas A&M. This individual will be responsible for communicating with student groups, student leaders, vendors, event venues, and fellow staff members to develop and execute multiple events per semester that contribute to the organizational goals of the Learning Communities and provide students with opportunities for professional development and in-depth community building at both large and small scales. This individual will be present on-site at all Learning Communities events, communicating effectively to resolve any logistical challenges or unexpected complications. This individual will also support the daily operations of the Learning Communities by collaborating with other LC staff members for the coordination of their student programming as needed. The ideal candidate will be an individual who is comfortable in a highly fluid work environment with an ever-changing itinerary of day-to-day tasks and activities. This individual should also be comfortable with supervising student leaders, providing constructive feedback on these leaders' mentoring and teaching styles, advising students one-on-one, and planning both large and small-scale events tailored to the interests of a general student audience. We need an individual who is highly organized, an excellent communicator, and values teamwork and collaboration with staff and students in equal measure. Other Requirements and Factors:
- Ability to attend meetings and events scheduled during evening and weekend times (work a flex schedule).
- Requires some evening and weekend work.
- Travel may be required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience such as advising, recruiting, teaching, or housing.
- Demonstrated ability to manage an organization.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Must be fluent in the English language and able to comprehend, give, and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Develops drafts for UGST 181 and UGST 001 Century Scholars seminar courses to include: syllabus, lesson plans, student assignments, and peer mentor facilitation instructions based on the vision and guidance of the Program Director.
- Provides instruction for and implements approved coursework and programming in the first- and second-year experience course.
- Completes grading and attendance evaluations for student engagement and progress.
- Plans and manages budget for learning community events.
- Acts as a liaison to library faculty, prospective student centers, and partnering schools associated with learning community scholarships as designated by Program Director for programming purposes.
- Creates opportunities to strengthen and maintain student's community involvement, networking potential, and cross-cohort collaboration within Century, First Year Eats, and general learning community programs.
- Serves as an advisor to students engaged in learning communities within OSS.
- Recruits and advises prospective students for Century Scholars Program, First Year Eats program opportunities, and general learning community programs.
- Works with continuing students to monitor student engagement and student success.
- Advises student organizations, peer mentors, and student leaders within these learning communities.
- Develops and implements training materials and processes for peer mentors and student leaders in Century, First Year Eats, and general learning community programs based on the vision and guidance of the Program Director.
- Participates in review of applications, interviews, and oversees selection and training of mentors for the learning communities and the First Year Eats student leader team.
- Engages in appropriate professional development opportunities.
- Participates in professional organizations.
